Supergirl Producer Eliminates One Cyborg Superman Theory

The CW recently revealed that another DC comic villain, Cyborg Superman, would be appearing in an upcoming episode of Supergirl titled ‘The Darkest Place.’ The official synopsis reveals that Kara (Melissa Benoist) will come face-to-face with the cybernetic enemy while trying to rescue Mon-El (Chris Wood) from Cadmus.
Project Cadmus has been a steadily-growing presence on Supergirl, with several plotlines involving its mission to combat aliens by creating its own super-powered humans, often by any means necessary. The big twist of episode ‘Crossfire‘ revealed that the evil Cadmus scientist, who recently launched a campaign of fear by arming criminals with alien technology, was none other than Lena Luthor’s mother.
It’s not clear yet how Mama Luthor will factor into the existence of Cyborg Superman, or which fan theory is correct about the superpowered villain’s true identity. In an interview with TVline, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently removed one character from the running.
“Cyborg Superman is not [being played by] Tyler Hoechlin.”

It could have been an interesting spin on the character of Cyborg Superman to have him actually be the mechanically-repaired Supes he pretended to be in the “Reign of the Supermen” comic storyline, but the showrunners clearly have other plans. In print the cyborg turned out to be a vengeful Hank Henshaw, but on Supergirl that character is supposedly dead, with Martian J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) taking on his identity.
The New 52 updated DC storylines revealed Cyborg Superman to be Kara’s Kryptonian father Zor-El, but on Supergirl we just might get her adoptive father Jeremiah Danvers (played by former TV Superman, Dean Cain) in the role. Kidnapped over a decade ago by Cadmus, it wouldn’t be surprising to find out he’d been subjected to their usual brand of “upgrade” experiments. As Kreisberg teased last month, “The Jeremiah that we see might not be exactly what people expect.”
With Superman-level powers, the cyborg version will definitely be a formidable foe for Kara. If he turns out to also be her father Jeremiah, the question will be how much he’s changed and how he reacts to seeing his adopted daughter. Supergirl often excels at a blend of exciting action and emotional drama, and this reveal certainly has the potential to pack on heck of a physical and emotional punch.
Supergirl continues with episode ‘Changing’ on Monday, November 4 at 8pm on The CW.
