Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time Gets a 2018 Release Date

Based on the children’s fantasy novel of the same name by author Madeline L’Engle in 1963, A Wrinkle in Time is gearing up to be quite the cinematic event from Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay (Selma). After spending several years in various stages of pre-production, the new movie is all set to turn heads and perhaps convince a few new readers to pick up the original Newbery Medal-winning novel.
With such talented cast members as Mindy Kaling (Inside Out), Reese Witherspoon (Wild), and Zach Galifianakis (Baskets) already attached in leading roles, A Wrinkle in Time should be quite the cineamtic treat for longtime fans of the original book and general moviegoers alike. On that note, the latest word has an official release date set on the part of distributor Walt Disney Studios within the next couple of years.
In the footage featured above, moviegoers can get an exclusive look behind the scenes of the new movie by way of a camera that weaves its way between various members of the cast and crew of A Wrinkle in Time, all while the participants involved in making the film remain frozen in mock tribute to the ways in which the iconic story plays with various science fiction concepts related to time and space. Implementing the viral hashtag #MannequinChallenge into the proceedings, the video ends with a close up of lead actress Storm Reid (12 Years a Slave) holding a script with the official April 2018 release date written on the front.

Viewers who have been looking forward to a feature-length adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time ever since rumblings about a script were first announced way back in 2010 have plenty of reason to be excited now with the announcement of an actual release date. What’s more, the creativity, enthusiasm, and general goodwill on display throughout the video above only goes to show how impassioned the the entire cast and crew is when it comes to making the new movie a production fit to please both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Only time will tell how well A Wrinkle in Time ultimately performs at the box office, but with any luck DuVernay will manage well in adapting the fantasy novel and bringing its fantastic storyline to life. Everything appears to be coming together in big way behind the scenes thus far, so here’s to hoping for the very best when the movie finally sees release in just over two years time.
