Spider-Man: Homecoming – Michael Keaton Confirmed as Vulture

The relatively new working relationship between Sony and Marvel has appeared to start without any major problems. The third big screen Spider-Man debuted in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year and only further increased interest in seeing more of the character. Thankfully, Spider-Man: Homecoming is less than a year away from now, giving Tom Holland a chance to show what he can do as the lead of this franchise. The two studios have assembled a young cast around Holland as they focus on Peter Parker’s days in high school, but the villain will be far different.

Early reports for the villain of the film named Michael Keaton as the top choice, and he eventually nabbed the role after initially falling out of talks. His confirmation did not come with any official word regarding his character, but once Vulture was revealed to be the main villain, everyone thought that this would be the case. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that it is.

Kevin Feige recently confirmed in an interview with Toronto Sun that Keaton is in fact playing Vulture in Homecoming. This is the first time that anyone directly involved with the film has confirmed the role, despite the fact that it had been heavily speculated, assumed, and reported. He revealed the information while discussing the other exciting villains Marvel has in their upcoming slate.

We’ve had a wish list and most of them in the near-term are coming together. Cate Blanchett is playing Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Michael Keaton’s Vulture in Spider-Man is something. And of course, finally, we’re showcasing Josh Brolin’s Thanos (in Avengers: Infinity War). We’re looking forward to that very much.

This is not going to come as a shock to anybody who has followed the news surrounding the highly anticipated movie, but it is great to finally know for sure that this will be the case. Now that Keaton has been confirmed to play Adrian Toomes (Vulture), those interested in the film will be anxiously awaiting to get their first look at him in costume.

Filming of Homecoming was among one of the most public productions in recent memories when it comes to superhero movies. Early on, set photos and new casting information were released daily, with more photos and videos from the set coming out every couple of weeks. Despite all of this, there was never any sign of Keaton on set or the Vulture costume itself, making the live-action reveal something many are anticipating.

For now, the design of his suit has already been revealed thanks to early concept art. Just today however, a new photo leaked online showcasing another look at the suit, but this time with smaller wings compared to the art and quick glimpse of the character shown at the SDCC panel. It should be only a matter of time before some look at the movie is released officially and when it is, the appearance of Vulture or any of the other villains will certainly be something to keep an eye out for.
