Tom Hardy’s Taboo Premiere Date Announced; New Poster Released



It has been an interesting year for FX. Despite ending Tyrant and announcing the end of The Strain, the network has been laying the groundwork for new programming like comic book adaptation Legion and continuing successful shows like Fargo. FX even took home several Emmys this fall thanks to The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. The network is taking risks in order to continue to build its reputation as a cable channel that delivers high-quality series.

One imminent series from the channel that’s been in the works for some years now has finally earned a spot in the FX lineup. Tom Hardy’s upcoming miniseries Taboo has been in the works since 2014, and it’s finally coming to fruition — in fact, the network just announced the period drama’s official premiere date.

According to an official release from FX, Taboo will reach small screens on January 10, 2017 at 10 p.m. EST. This exciting news comes on the heel of a new trailer for the series, and includes a brand new poster. In it, Tom Hardy can be seen in profile and 19th century dress, his face covered in white powdery makeup. Take a look at the new poster, below:


Taboo is a co-creation between Tom Hardy, his father Chips, and Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight. Knight also worked with Tom Hardy on Locke, a drama that demanded a powerful performance from the actor due to it being set entirely in an automobile. Ridley Scott is working on Taboo as an executive producer, with Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing) and Anders Engström slated to direct four episodes each of the eight-episode series. Hardy stars with an ensemble cast that includes Oona Chaplin, Franke Potente, and Mark Gatiss.

The series follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy) after he returns home to nineteenth century London. Expecting to take over his deceased father’s buisness, Delaney instead stumbles upon a deep-rooted family mystery and unimaginable treachery. Though this new poster doesn’t tell us much about Taboo, it certainly raises some interesting questions — namely, what is on Hardy’s face, and why? Whether mud or makeup, there are a lot of questions as to how he ended up covered in white, and what it means for Delaney’s future adventures. It’s exciting to know that this show, with its incredibly strong cast and crew, is really happening — and soon.

There are a lot of impending shows to look forward to in 2017, and it’s good to see Taboo added to that list. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this developing series, to see if it can join its network counterparts at the Emmys.
