Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them Clip: Newt Cleans Up A Magical Mess

The arrival of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been a long time coming. Though the original J.K. Rowling book was published back in 2001, it is only some 15 years later that Harry Potter fans are getting their first chance at seeing that world on the big screen, and the images, trailers and clips we’ve seen thus far all bear the familiar Potterverse trademarks.

With only two weeks to go before Fantastic Beasts arrives in theaters, it feels as though Warner Bros. is approaching the film’s release with a calm, yet confident focus. The film has not been over-publicized by any means – the world that director David Yates (Harry Potter 4-7) has created remains just mysterious enough as to peak the curiosity of diehard Potter fans and casual audiences alike. As is stands, big things are predicted for this first entry in the franchise.

With Fantastic Beasts‘ release date closing in, Warner Bros. is doing some last minute work drumming up a bit more anticipation. This latest effort comes to us via a new clip from Yahoo! Movies (which can be seen above) and features Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) and Katherine Waterston (Porpetina “Tina” Waterston) as they face off against just a fraction of the sort of fantastical challenges that further await them in the film.

In the clip, Scamander has his hands full repairing a large section of the New York City apartment building he appears to be staying at. With a barely conscious Kowalski on the floor and Porpetina on her way up the stairs to the apartment, Scamander casts a quick spell and makes the apartment good as new once more. Porpetina’s concern that something has escaped from Scamander’s case – a Niffler, to be precise – is downplayed by Scamander only seconds before a bizarre creature springs forward and Scamander stuffs it back into his case. That creature is a Murtlap, which was likely responsible for attacking Kowalski.

Based on the few clips that we’ve been able to see thus far, Yates seems to have injected the mischievous Harry Potter quality that all fans of the franchise have come to love. Redmayne looks and feels perfectly suited for this environment, with his bumbling awkwardness and ample magical capabilities. The creatures that Fantastic Beasts promises to reveal have obviously done quite a number on New York City and the ability to introduce those “No-Maj” who have no previous experience to the wizarding world looks to be one of the great charms of the film.

This new clip is certainly fun and bodes well for what’s to come in two weeks time. However, the question of whether or not Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them can match the success of past Harry Potter films remains. With recent news that the next installment of the franchise will be set in Paris and that Johnny Depp will be taking on a role, there’s room for a whole lot more to come yet. Hopefully it will be is as magical as fans are expecting.
