Man of Steel 2 Fan Trailer: Dwayne Johnson is Black Adam

A new fan-made trailer for Man of Steel 2 imagines Henry Cavill’s Superman facing off against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam. The DC Extended Universe has expanded considerably since director Zack Snyder’s 2013 global blockbuster Man of Steel, which introduced Cavill to fans as one of the future faces of the Justice League.

After defeating his father Jor-El’s (Crowe) chief adversary General Zod (Michael Shannon), Superman met what appeared to be his demise in the third act of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice at the hands of Doomsday. Of course, it’s pretty common knowledge now that the Man of Steel will be returning from the grave in the next DCEU installment.

In a new fan trailer from stryder HD titled Man of Steel 2: Man of Tomorrow, Superman returns – not in Justice League – but in his second solo movie, with Shazam! comic book villain Black Adam as his nemesis. First set to the strains of “The Planet Krypton” from John Williams’ score from 1978’s Superman: The Movie, the 2 minute 50 second trailer begins with Superman’s funeral scene at the conclusion of BvS, followed by his awakening and a trip back to The Fortress of Solitude.

Upon returning to Metropolis (accompanied by a voiceover by Jor-El and scenes from Man of Steel), Superman is back in business to face Black Adam, who is cleverly created in the likeness of Johnson and inserted into the action. Even though it’s another solo adventure, Superman is not alone, as Batman turns up, as does Shazam (John Cena, culled from footage from 2006’s The Marine). Also featured in the faux trailer is Amy Adams’ Lois Lane, Kevin Costner (in a voice-over as Jonathan Kent), and Jesse Eisenberg as the bald and imprisoned Lex Luthor, who obviously has retaliation on his mind.

Clearly a lot of effort was put into the fan trailer for Man of Steel 2, and stryder HD should not only be lauded for the vast amounts of technical work that he put into the clip, but for constructing an interesting framework of a narrative. It definitely shows the promise of including Johnson in a DCEU movie, which, at least for the time being, won’t be happening in Shazam! The possibilities are endless, though, for employing Johnson elsewhere, whether it be in the Black Adam solo movie that he’s been long teased, Justice League 2 or of course, Man of Steel 2.

Johnson and Cavill certainly seem to be hip with the idea of appearing together as Black Adam and Superman. Cavill teased a pair with a casual photo of the two together last December, and Johnson shared some impressive fan art of Black Adam and Superman from Boss Logic a few days later.
