X-Men: Dark Phoenix May Be Filming In New York

Along with shooting in Montreal, X-Men: Dark Phoenix looks like it’s headed to New York for additional filming. While 2017 is the first year with three Marvel Studios releases, Fox is already set to match them with comic book content in 2018. Next year, Deadpool will be getting a sequel, and a potential new franchise will kick off with New Mutants. Finishing things out will be the fourth film in the new X-Men series, which will see the young heroes and their returning mentors confront the power of the Phoenix Force.

There’s not much we know about the film so far, but it’s said to feature a significant Magneto arc. The movie will also see the return of Quicksilver and possibly even Psylocke. And while specifics aren’t known, the casting of Jessica Chastain (likely as Lilandra) strongly suggests elements from the Dark Phoenix storyline in the comics will be adapted. So far, the initial filming for Dark Phoenix has been taking place in Montreal where the other recent X-Men movies have shot. Now, however, it seems another nearby city will feature in the film.

Omega Underground has a new report indicating which movies will be filming in New York City. Among them are ‘Teen Spirit’, the working title for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. While nothing has been confirmed, previous set photos have hinted at NYC factoring into the story, so it makes sense that at least some filming would take place in the city.

As filming continues for Dark Phoenix, we’ll get an even better idea of how things will look. So far, set photos have already teased the return of the Danger Room and a new visor for Cyclops. When the original X-Men films were rebooted and sent back to the ’60s, there was no telling what would happen to the new franchise or the previous one. With the upcoming fourth film fleshing out younger versions of many of the heroes from the first trilogy, however, it seems that the new series is the core one.

While established characters will get more time in the spotlight, this is an X-Men film. As such, plenty of new mutants will be brought into the ’90s-set movie. Along with the addition of Chastain, we know a few other small roles have been cast. Fan-favorite mutant Dazzler is also reported to appear, and may have already been cast herself.

Most X-Men news of late has been centered on Deadpool 2, while both New Mutants and Dark Phoenix have been relatively quiet. For the former, this is odd as it releases in less than a year. For the latter, it’s fall release next year means we should be very close to a flurry of casting announcements and photos from the set of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
